Foley:
Foley is the reproduction of everyday sounds. Foley can be used both with and to replace sound recorded on set. (Footsteps, doors shutting, rivers flowing).
Foley is used to replace poor quality/imperfect recordings, create more believable ambient sounds, make a scene more realistic and natural, it gives full control over the outcome and effect of sound and it creates a sense of atmosphere.

Reviewing for Foley-
The 4 main areas to consider:
1. Footsteps
2. Moves
3. Spots
4.Ambience
What do you need to consider for when planning Foley?:
Footsteps- You would need to consider the texture of the ground they are walking on, how this sound can be made and even how it would be to walk on and the different sounds it would make when walked on.
Movement- For movement you would need to consider the texture of the clothes or bag, how they rub against other objects and how fast or slow the person is moving.
Spots- You would need to consider how these actions are completed and maybe even the age of the object. For example a door, is it slammed shut or forced open? Was it a creaky door or a smooth one? Is it old and rattly or new and easy to use?
Ambience- You would need to consider where the location is, what everyday noise comes with, how loud these sounds would be and even the speed of certain things, like the rain or a car.
Foley Review: Assassins Creed
When reviewing for Foley in Assassins creed, I have to take into consideration the four main factors that make up a video: Footsteps, Movement, Spots and Ambience.

Footsteps-
-
Boots on gravel
-
Boots on stone
-
Boots on grass
-
Boots running on grass
-
Boots going through a puddle

Movements-
-
Jacket
-
Leather
-
Clothe

Spots-
-
Wooden door opening

Ambience-
-
Leaves rustling
-
Birds
-
Bell's ringing
-
Water fountain

The above are things I noticed when reviewing the video clip. Footsteps seems to have the most due to the fact that there is different textures of ground and that can also be affected by the style of shoes the character's wearing. Movement on the other hand is only affected by the texture of the man's clothes and the sound they make against each other, so his two fabric choices (leather and clothe) would rub together and make a noise. For spots it's only a wooden door opening however when creating this sound you would need to consider how the action is completed. Ambience in this clip is just the background noise and it shows the spectator where the location is set.
Foley Raw Footage:
When recording these Foley tapes I found it quite easy and fun all you had to do was create a sound using the stuff you had around you to make it sound like something else. As a group we decided we would create simple sounds which included walking, rustling of some sort, knocking and ect. We tried each one on different surface areas to see which one sounded the best and closet to what we was trying to aim to do. The one's I have put onto this page are these examples. Overall, I found Foley to be an interesting and definitely fun way of creating sound for film and tv. What surprised me the most is how objects you would't expect to go well together and create a sound for something else, did do that. I think my results would go well over some sort of video if edited correctly.
